We are committed to preserving the narrative of countless rental stories, both positive and negative, that would otherwise remain untold.
Unlike platforms that primarily serve landlords, HowMuchRent.com is built with the tenant at the forefront. We offer a comprehensive view of the rental market, featuring historical rental prices, detailed property reviews, and ratings. We invite everyone navigating the Irish rental market to join our mission of promoting transparency and accountability by contributing their reviews and rents to HowMuchRent.com Our dedication to fostering a culture of transparency aims to mitigate the challenges posed by less reputable participants in the Irish rental sector.
Our efforts are particularly concentrated on Rent Pressure Zones (RPZs). We’ve identified over 1,000 properties charging rates over 2% in recent months, underlining our commitment to advocating for fair pricing. In an innovative move, we've transcribed over 15,000 Residential Tenancies Board judgements. This allows users to determine if a landlord or tenant has previously been involved in legal disputes, such as issues concerning deposit returns, evictions, or unpaid bills. While these reports are publicly available on the RTB website in PDF format(meaning that Google does not index the reports), we uniquely integrate them into our platform, making them accessible and viewable on HowMuchRent.com.
We firmly believe that rental charges and deposit handling require reform. We advocate for all rents charged by landlords to be public information and for tenants deposits to be held in escrow. The RTB was mandated to offer a Rental Deposit scheme 9 years ago(https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-41315608.html), yet no action has been taken since. Clean and well kept 2 bed apartment in a quiet area on first floor. Stairs and elevator access. Safe, nice friendly community. Brightly lit apartment. One parking space assigned. Retains heat in winter, nice and cool in summer. Bills can be kept low. (Gas and electric) Thin walls, easy to hear activities of other apartment users. Large main bedroom, with en-suite shower. Let by estate agent on behalf on private landlord. No interaction with landlord. No visits from agency. Peaceful. No issues, maintenance was low and taken care of by agency. Started renting during Covid. Rent stayed relatively low. ~1600 - 1700 Recently received letter of termination, 6 months notice. Owner intended to sell. We enquired about buying direct. Were informed then that sale already agreed. Since had to find another place to rent.
